Playing a card

Players take turns playing a card into a habitat on their side of the board either face-up or face-down. They can only play cards into habitats that are not full. A habitat is full when it has 3 cards.

When playing a card face up, it must match the habitat it is placed in.
When playing a card face down, it is not required to match the habitat. Players can only play a total of 3 face-down cards on their side of the board.
After playing a card, the opponent must take the card from the habitat‘s breeding zone (card on the board in the middle) into their hand and a new card is added to the breeding zone.

Check for habitat majority

After playing a card into a habitat, check the habitat majority. Players win a habitat by having the highest value of combined card value (only face-up cards) in that habitat. If so, move the habitat marker onto their side of the board. Otherwise, it stays where it is.

Game end

There are 3 ways to end the game.

If a player has all 5 animal tokens on their side of the board – they win the game immediately.
If a player cannot play a card – they lose the game immediately.
If both sides of the board are full (3 cards in each habitat).
If the game ends by both sides becoming full – players now reveal all their face-down cards and check the habitat majority in each of the 5 habitats. If the revealed card matches the habitat it is added to the total value, if not its value is 0.

The habitat marker is moved to the side with the highest value.
But if the value is double (or more) than their opponents, the habitat is overpopulated and the other player wins that habitat instead.
The player with the most habitats wins the game.

Exmoor is an expansion to Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor.

At the start of the game, first remove 40 cards from the base game at random.
Then shuffle in the 50 new cards from the expansion and do the normal set-up. (For each player less than 5, remove another 10 cards)

Changes to cards of the base game:
* The new ability EYE (y) works like this: Play a card with this icon from the clearing for free. If there is no card with this icon, reveal up to y cards from the stack into the clearing until there is a matching card. If none of the y cards shows the correspondent icon, no card can be played, and the clearing will be checked for 10+ cards
* EYE can even look out for several icons of the same kind. Reveal cards from the stack until that number of matching cards are in the clearing or until you reach y.
* The 1 dragonfly of the Exmoor expansion adds to the set of dragonflies; which now can consist of 6 different ones and score accordingly
