Goal of the game
The goal of the game is to be the first player to put a Deity on top of Mount Olympus, the central space of the game board. The game is designed for 2 players, or 4 players playing in teams of 2.
Deity Cards
The game has two identical sets of 8 different Deity cards. 2 players: Start with giving one set to each player. 4 players: Randomly deal a set between 2 players on opposing teams, four cards each. Then randomly deal the other set between the remaining two players. Thus a team may have zero, one or two copies of each Deity.
Each player places their cards face up (= powered) in front of themself. During gameplay, players exhaust their cards (2 player: flip, 4 player: discard on a common pile). When a player no longer has any powered cards, they must recover their cards. 2 player: flip back to the powered side, 4 player: choose 4 cards from the discard pile (different, if possible) and place them face up (= powered) in front of you.
Playing a turn
- - Deity activation: The player MUST exhaust one of their Deity cards.
- - Movement: The player MUST move the matching Deity (if possible) to the side or towards the center space, placing it on a free space (no Deity or Barrier token). If the move triggers one or more tokens, resolve the effects and remove the tokens from the board.
- - Power: The player MUST resolve the Power of the chosen Deity.
End of the Game
Once a player moves a Deity on the center space of the board, they or their team wins the game.
Deities and their Powers
ZEUS / HADES / DEMETER Place a matching token (Thunder / Gate / Fertility) on an empty space on the game board.
HERA Disgrace: 2 players: The opposing player must exhaust one of their cards of your choice. 4 players: Pick a powered card belonging to an opponent. All your opponents must discard all the cards matching that Deity.
ARES Barrier: Place 2 Barrier tokens on empty spaces.
ATHENA Strategy: 2 players: You may exhaust up to two of your powered cards. 4 players: You may exhaust one of your cards, and/or one of your teammate’s cards. (Athena’s Power allows you to recover your cards much faster.)
POSEIDON Flood: You MUST choose one of the following two options: Remove any token from the board or move one Deity backwards one space. If a Thunder token is triggered this way, simply remove it from the board. This token has no effect.
APHRODITE
Seduction: Move another Deity, but not onto Olympus.
Tokens
As soon as a token is triggered, and regardless of whether its effect applies, this token is removed from the board and returned to the reserve. If a player must place a token, but there are no more tokens of that type available, then they must move one of the tokens of that type already on the board.
BARRIER (Ares): Deities cannot enter this space in any way.
GATE (Hades): A Deity moving onto a Gate token must move to another space containing a Gate token (if not possible: to a space on the starting ring). Then both tokens ar removed from the board.
FERTILITY (Demeter): A Deity moving onto a Fertility token must make another move.
THUNDER (Zeus): A Deity triggers a Thunder token when moving onto a space containing the token or any adjacent space. A Thunder token therefore affects 9 spaces. When a Deity triggers a Thunder token, they cannot activate their Power this turn.
